India vs Sri Lanka: Five ODIs and one Twenty20 in Rangiri and Colombo

India tour is totally confirmed and the team will reach in Dambulla, Sri Lanka on 24 January 2009. The tour was not fixed according the international cricket council. But, after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai the India cricket authorities has stopped to tour of Pakistan where they had a long tour. In stead of this tour Indians conversed with the SLC to host an ODI series and a twenty20 match.

The ODI series will be held between the gap of Sri Lanka-Pakistan ODI and Test series. After the Tri-Nation series in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka has flown away to Pakistan for a short tour to play ODI series. Then they will back to home to host India.

Sri Lanka is not in good form now but they beat India in the Asia Cup Cricket with the magic spin bowl of Mendis. On the other hand, India is bearing very good records in the last matches, especially in the last test and ODI series. Now, in the unscheduled matches form 27 January will draw the notice of all the cricket fans. They will enjoy the flavor with the match India-Sri Lanka in stead of India-Pakistan matches.

The venues are all set to host the matches between India and Sri Lanka. The first two matches will be held at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Rangiri and the last three ODI with one Twenty20 international match at R.Premadasa Stadium (Khettarama), Colombo.

Sri Lanka vs England ODI Series: Venue of 1st ODI, Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium

The first venue of Sir Lanka vs England ODI Series has selected Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. The Stadium is situated in the North Central Province, nearby Dambulla. The capacity of this stadium is 30000, and the inaugural one-day international (ODI) match was played between Sri Lanka and England in March 2000. Dambulla an agricultural trading town also famous for its ancient UNESCO protected Buddhist Cave Temples which date back to 85 B.C.

In the inaugural match Sri Lanka beat England by five wickets. During that time Graham Thorp was the captain of England team. In other match at 2003 between England and Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka beat England by 10 wickets. So the winning records of Sri Lanka are best.

The records of this Ground:

  • Sri Lanka holds the highest score at the ground with 282/4 against India.
  • England holds the lowest score at the ground with 88 all out against Sri Lanka.
  • Australian duo Ricky Ponting and Matthew Hayden hold the biggest partnership record at the ground when they put on 148 for the 2nd wicket in 2003/04 series.
  • Sri Lankan duo of K Sangakkara (318 runs) & M Muralitharan (24 Wickets) hold the record for runs scored and wickets taken at the ground so far in their careers.
