India vs New Zealand tri series 2009: Tendulkar and Karthik will open

Indian master blaster batsman Sachin Tendulkar has been called for the ongoing tri series in Sri Lanka due to injury of the opener Gautam Gambhir who was listed for the whole series. Although Virat Kohli has been included for the absence of Gambhir, he will not come as an opening batsman. At the same time Sachin has been called for opening batting line-up to pair with Karthik. You all know that Tendulkar was out of the odi squad for at long time but may be due to short of opener he has a included in the team and will face Shane Bond on Friday in the day-night match at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

This time India has included two new (old and experienced) players who were kept out from the one-day squad from the team and the new boys were recruited there. Sachin will dominate the opposition blowers as an opener and Rahul Dravid will come to the number three as usual.

Indian Captain MS Dhoni hopes that duo will be the most potential for the team against New Zealand in the Compaq Cup tri series in Sri Lanka on Friday 11, September. Gambhir already has back to home without playing any single match due to groin injury and the regular opener Virender Sehwag is also out of action for a long time.

Dinesh Karthik is the positive for Indian team

India is Sri Lanka to play a Test series. They have played practices alongside with Sri Lanka Board XI. Dinesh Karthik is not a regular Test player but for the tour he has been selected for Sri Lanka tour. During the pre-match of first Test that will be taken place on 23 July 2008, he has shown very good and positive performances. He proved that an experienced company can lead the team well which Sachin and Karthik did. In Dinesh Karthik’s speech it is clear.

"It is always helpful if you start the innings with a player like Sachin. He gives you confidence and tells you how to pace your innings," Karthik said. "He was telling me to take my time and play. It was not a wicket where you can come and start playing shots. I was trying to do that."

Dinesh Karthik who is an irregular wicketkeeper of India team, has got chance with the Test team for the absence of ODI captain MS Dhoni. India’s earlier 5 wickets downfall made difficult to overcome 224 runs. But Sachin Tendulkar and Dinesh Karthik’s strong partnership moved India in 196 runs.
