Super Kings has the last laugh

In a format created to favour batsmen and big hitting, a bowler won the match for Chennai Super Kings at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium here on Wednesday.

Young paceman Manpreet Singh Goni’s four immaculate overs at the beginning of the Mumbai Indians’ innings proved the decisive spell in a crucial Indian Premier League duel in front of a packed audience.

Bowling with control and working around the basics, Goni conceded just 18 runs in his four overs.

Super Kings won but not before surviving a scare after some hectic hitting by Abhishek Nayar (45 n.o., 20b, 6x4, 1x6) and skipper Harbhajan Singh in the end overs. A barrage of fours and sixes brought Mumbai Indians desperately close.

Joginder Sharma, once again, was alive at the death.
Second win

Defending 208, the host clinched a thriller by six runs for its second successive victory in the competition. Mumbai Indians is without a win in two games.

Mumbai Indians faltered at the start. S. Badrinath scored a direct hit from point to catch Luke Ronchi short of the crease at the non-striker’s end.

Not much later, key man Sanath Jayasuriya was unable to pick the impressive Manpreet Singh Goni’s change of pace.

Goni bowled tight from one end, but Jacob Oram suffered at the other as Robin Uthappa (43 off 36 balls) cut loose.

The batsman displayed power and finesse before swishing at a delivery from Joginder Sharma to lose his leg stump.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni shuffled his bowlers, led with a combination of instinct and foresight.

With the ability to get his deliveries to skid off the surface, Joginder can be a dicey bowler in this format and Dhoni used him to break partnerships.

A youngster like Palani Amarnath held his nerve — after being struck for a six — to castle Pollock.

IPL an incentive, not a distraction

IPL an incentive, not a distraction - How
Jamie How insists there is no ill-feeling towards New Zealand players in the Indian Premier League - and has urged the rest of the squad to seize their chance to get noticed for the tournament.

With captain Daniel Vettori in India, How will be skipper against MCC at Arundel on Sunday when New Zealand starts preparations for its three-Test series against England.

Vice-captain Brendon McCullum is also playing in the Twenty20 tournament - he smashed 158 in his first match - along with Ross Taylor, Kyle Mills and Jacob Oram.

Coach John Bracewell insists there is unity in his squad and How believes the money and exposure of the IPL is an incentive to perform.

"I think everyone wishes they will be in India at some point," he said.

"It's like our coach says, our best players are over there and it is something to aim for. We're happy for the guys that are over there."

Ironically, How's opposite number this weekend will be former New Zealand skipper Chris Cairns, with Nathan Astle also in the MCC line-up.

Bracewell admits the situation of missing players could have a destabilising effect, but also argued that problems can arise from a number of scenarios tourists face.

"It's not ideal but it is the reality of the landscape we live in and it's a great opportunity," he said.

"It's the landscape of our salaries in New Zealand. For us we see it as a glass half full rather than half empty - it brings us into line with rugby [salaries]."

Bracewell will have his IPL players returning next week, with Mark Gillespie travelling home and Michael Mason staying in England.

When his five senior players arrive in England, squad discussions will continue over how to deal with the IPL.

Bracewell believes much of New Zealand's previous preparations have been fractured anyway by split tours and different one-day and Test personnel.

"It's something we've discussed openly as a group, at length during our summer, and we are still discussing it," he explained.

"It is part of the growth and maturity of this team that we have to work in this landscape. You are always looking for ideals, this is reality - we have to adapt quickly to comings and goings."

He added: "All things have potential for [friction]. Our particular group understand it. It's incentive-based and an opportunity to bring us into line with [the salaries of] other Test nations."

Despite fringe players being given the platform to impress, the reality is that New Zealand's five 'superstars' will be in the side for the first Test, at Lord's on May 15.

"Superstars? We're a team," said How.

"The guys are realistic about the guys coming in. They are our senior players. There is the opportunity to press for selection and you can only go out and do your best."

With Stephen Fleming's retirement adding to their problems, New Zealand is regarded in England as overwhelming underdogs as it looks to rebuild. This despite having beaten England in the one-day series, and the first Test of their three-Test series in New Zealand last month.

Bracewell himself has been suggested as a possible departure, with the 50-year-old linked with a return to Gloucestershire.

"There are a lot of options out there for coaches as well as players," he said.

"I'm constantly in touch with them because I built up a lot of relationships. It's something that is not out of the question.

"I want to return to county because I really enjoyed the cricket played, the structure and the lifestyle."

Nayantara the Brand Ambassador of Chennai Super Kings

Most of the franchise of Indian Premier League team (a T20 formatted cricket match) has selected brand ambassador form different film industry. Nayantara is one of them who is from Kollywood, the brand ambassador Chennai Super Kings. She is spending her time in a tight schedule. Now she has become physically unfit.

This master of multitasking shoots for films round-the-clock. Recently, she had some health issues due to over exertion and opted out from the responsibility of being ambassador of Chennai Super Kings which would have put her under even more work pressure. We just witnessed her star power which made IPL select her as brand ambassador. Her presence and acting skills added to the success of Yaaradi Nee Mohini, where she was cast opposite Dhanush. She was Rajinikanth's heroine in Chandramukhi and has worked with Ajith. She is going to share screen space with Vijay in Singam and with Ajith in Aegan.

She is the most popular actress in the south India and has acted almost most of the actor. Chennai Super Kings will be played its next match against Kolkata Knight Riders. The fight will be harder because both teams are still unbeaten. Now will the brand ambassador present in the play ground to add more pleasure?

Cheerleaders needs to be ban?

Now DLF IPL is going on full speed. It is extra cheer for Indian especially cricket fans. To add more joy it added cheerleaders in the fields. Indian people are always crazy about cricket. It is one kind of pleasant for them. May be someone objected about the cheerleaders that their presence are not acceptable in the play ground.

"The girls are merely artistes who perform as per the instructions of organisers," Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Ramrao Wagh said, adding that a performance license has been granted to the organisers of the match between Mumbai Indians and Deccan Chargers to be held at Nerul's D Y Patil stadium.

In the event of the cheerleaders indulging in obscenity, Wagh said, the "license holders" (the organisers) will be prosecuted under various provisions of the Bombay Police Act for indecency in a public place and breach of license terms.

The objection on the cheerleaders was raised in the State Legislative Council by Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari, who is also a member of the House. Gadkari said it was degrading to women and should be banned.

Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home, Siddhram Mhetre had yesterday told reporters that the government will not allow the cheerleaders to perform as their acts are "absolutely obscene" and wondered why the organisers required "semi nude" women at cricket matches.

Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders: Who will win?

Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders: Who will win?

Chennai Super Kings is one of the team which still does not loss any match. It has already played two matches against Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians. The third match it will be played against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 26 at Chidambaram Stadium, in Chennai of the DLF Indian Premier League.

Kolkata Knight Riders is also another team that owns all the previous two matches and got the full score. It has beaten some of the big teams Bangalore Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers. So the Points table is totally bowed down to the Kolkata Knight Riders. It is the top position holder of DLF Indian Premier League.

Now it is time to see what the time result will come on 26 April between the match Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata is in full strength with some high quality players Ponting, McCullum and Chris Gayle are among them. But the three are in injury they will back to home except Chris Gayle.

Sourav Ganguly's team will be the worst hit by the exodus. Ricky Ponting, McCullum and Chris Gayle, though he is yet to play due to injury, will be missing in action soon. Ponting will leave on May 1, McCullum on April 30 while the injured Gayle, even if he gets fit, will have to leave on May 15. These are big shoes to fill as Ponting is a proven commodity and McCullum became the first superstar of the IPL with a whirlwind record 158 on the opening night. They will look to the Pakistan opener Salman Butt and Zimbabwe's Tatendu Taibu to try plugging the big hole but it remains to be seen how effective they will be. Butt averages only 15.42 at a strike-rate of 81.20 in eight Twenty20 internationals and 16.62 at a strike-rate of 95 from 17 domestic Twenty20 games. Taibu averages 15.70 from 10 domestic Twenty20 matches but the runs have come at a fair clip of 122.65. Perhaps, Mohammad Hafeez will be pushed up the order. There is some good news for Kolkata, as the Pakistani seamer Umar Gul, who has joined the squad, will beef up the bowling.

Here is a complete Point Table till 24 April. After losing the third match against Rajasthan Royals Deccan Chargers confirm its tour to home. On the other hand Rajasthan Royals heroic come back driving them to the knock out league.
