Asin Thottumkal received Filmfare Best Tamil Female Debut Award for her first Tamil language movie, M. Kumaran son of Mahalakshmi, in 2004. She also acted in two Telegu language films: Lakshmi Narasimha and Gharshana, in 2004.
Asin Thottumkal presented perhaps her most successful movie, Ghajini, a Super Hit Tamil film, in 2005. For her tremendous performance in Ghajini, Asin won her the Filmfare Best Tamil Actress Award in the same year. Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka is the first Malaylam film of Asin Thottumkal which got released in 2001. Asin plays the role of Swathi in the movie, but her debut film did not fare well in the South Indian film industry. The movie was directed by Sathyan Anthikad, the movie also features Kunchacko Boben, Srinivasan, Samyuktha Varma, Sukumari and Kpac Lalitha.
