What about Sri Lanka team for CB series?

Sri Lankan team is now in Australia after a long interval almost five weeks from International cricket to play the triangular CB Series. The others teams of the series are the host and India who have recently finished the BV trophy where Australia has won the series by 2-1 of the 4 Test match Series. Sri Lanka team was played two tests in Australia about 3 months ago when they were white-wash by the host. However, they defeated England in a subsequent home series.

The team already reached in Sydney and their coach Trevor Bayliss ensured in a immediate viva that his team won’t involve in the race controversy between Australia and India concern team. He also said that it looked like those two have over come from the controversy. It was such incident that happens in cricket rare and is pretty quickly forgotten.

Sri Lanka team are practicing in net in a low-key manner in Sydney, on the other hand their opponents have recently finished 4matches VB test Series. Sri Lankan team will play first a practice match against the Prime Mister’s XI. It will be good for Sri Lanka because they did play ODI cricket since the middle of October while they lost a series by 3-2 to England in their soil. They have 6 fast bowlers and one spinner, Muttiah Muralitharan, the highest wicket keeper in the world.

The CB Series will be start on Wednesday day 3 with the playing between Australia vs India in Brisbane. After two days, Sri Lanka will face at first to India at Gabba.

Sri Lanka Squad for Commonwealth Bank series 2008

Sri Lanka announced their 15 member’s team including six fast bowers for the CB series, which will start in next math in Australia.

They included Chaminda Vass, who took 387 ODI wickets, Lasith Malinga, a unique stylish fast bowler, Farveez Maharoof, Nuwan Kulasekera, Chanaka Welegedara and Ishara Amerasinghe.

Among these, left-armed Welegedara made his test debut against England few days ago during England tour of Sri Lanka. He took place instead of Dilhara Farnando, who is improving after his ankle operation. Muttiah Muralitharan is only spinner in the announced team.

In the last triangular VB series in Australia in 2005-06, Srilanka’s legspinner Malinga Bandara put important role taking second highest 14 wickets and helped to Sri Lanka to play final and runner-up to Australia. In that squad Malinga Bandara wasn’t considered in 11, he was as a super-sub. However his performance was incredible in that VB series.

Selectors said that Dilshan was included as a middle-order batsman and will not open although his score is very well in domestic limited-overs tournament that position.

Sri Lanka team leaved for Australia on 24 January will play two warm-up games against a Prime Minister’s XI at Manuka Oval on 30 January and Tasmania in Hobart on February 2. They will face against India in their opening match in the CB Series in Brisbane on February 5.

Tri-Nation Commonwealth Bank Series 2008 Schedule

Now Australia-India is playing a four matches Test series and three already has finished and one matches in hand that will be taken place on 24 January 2008 in Adelaide, Oval. The result is now 2-1. So the 4th match is very important to both teams. If India could win the match the result will be draw or if he result come draw or the result goes on Australian the Austral will be the owner to the trophy.

After 4th test match Australia-India will play a Twenty20 International Match at Melbourne Cricket Ground. But Most important matches will commence on from 3 February 2008 when there nation will participate in the ODI tournament which named Commonwealth Bank Series 2008 (One Day International). Beside Australia and India other sub-continent’s cricket team Sri-Lanka will take part on that series.
