‘Drona’ vs ‘Kidnap’: The Race Begins?

Upcoming Bollywood movies, ‘Kidnap’ and ‘Drona’ go head to head during Eid festival. The two big budget films involving big names will hit the screens before the Eid vacation starts in India. So, both the films will have about four days vacation to bring the moviegoers to the cinema halls.

During the festival season in India, big budget, multi starrer movies get involved in a race. Last year, Saawariya, and Om Shanti Om involved in a tussle during Diwali festival in India. This time, Imran Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Minisha Lamba starrer Kidnap will take on Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Drona.

Both the movies are important for their directors and the protagonists. Drona is the second directorial of Goldie Behl after his directorial debut Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai in 2001. So, director Goldie Behl’s career prospect as a film director now largely depends on this big budget supernatural movie. Moreover, the movie is also very crucial for actor Abhishek Bachchan who could not churn out a big hit since 2007 hit Gugu. Since Guru, Abhishek Bachchan starrer big banner movies also fell at the box office. Yash Raj Films’ ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ and ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ failed to rock the box office, while ‘Sarkar Raj’ saw average success. So, a big hit has been due from Abhishek Bachchan who plays a superhero role in the movie Drona. The character Abhishek Bachchan plays in the movie tries to save the world from an evil magician (played by Kay Kay Menon). The movie involves a number of action stunts and special effects. Priyanka Chopra and Jaya Bachchan also play two important roles in the movie.

‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’ fame director Sanjay Gadhvi has to give a stern test with his upcoming Eid flick Kidnap. In fact, this is his first project outside Yash Raj Films. Having seen extensive success with ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’, Sanjay Gadhvi is now keen to produce another chartbuster for the Bollywood moviegoers.

Most importantly, Bollywood’s new heart throb Imran Khan will find the movie crucial for his rising career. The actor impressed all with his goodie, down-to-earth, soft image in his debut movie ‘Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na’ which did very well at the box office. Imran Khan himself also received much accolades for his sensual performance in the movie. However, in Kidnap, Imran Khan deals with a different role which is very much opposite to the one he played in his debut movie. In Kidnap, the actor plays a character who kidnaps a girl (played by Minisha Lamba) due to his old foe with her father. So, Imran Khan turns out to a kidnaper in the second movie after doing a soft-hearted role in hid debut film. Bollywood fans are eagerly waiting to see Imran Khan in a new look. Now, question is that if Imran Khan will be able to bring out success with his new angry-man avatar too. Time will answer it. The movie also stars Sanjay Dutt who plays the role of the girl and Vidya Malvade who will be seen in the role of the girl’s mother.

Drona will hit the screen on 2^nd October, just the day after Kidnap gets released. Bollywood fans are eagerly waiting for the two much-awaited movies. Kay Kay Menon Hopeful About Upcoming Movie ‘Drona’

Kay Kay Menon, who plays villain in the upcoming Bollywood flick Drona, has said that people will react well to the movie Drona which will get released worldwide on 2 October. Asked if audience will accept supernatural fantasy film Drona as reality films have worked well lately at the box office, Kay Kay Menon has said that people are matured enough to accept all sorts of movies.

Kay Kay Menon has also talked about his role in the fantasy film Drona. Directed by Goldie Behl, Drona tells the tale of a young man, Aditya/ Drona, protagonist in the film (played by Abhishek Bachchan). Based on comic books, graphic arts and Indian mythology, the movie portrays a young man who has royal inheritance, but he does not know about his true identity. Once he realizes his identity as part of a royal family, a royal responsibility of saving a precious thing from an evil magician comes to him. In the end, he confronts the magician, who wants to gain immortality by capturing that precious thing. Kay Kay Menon plays that villainous role of the magician in the movie, while Abhishek Bachchan plays the role of that young man. Priyanka Chopra plays a bodyguard of Abhishek, while Jaya Bachchan portrays the role of a queen who turns out to be the mother of that young man.

Kay Kay has admitted that he never played a role like that in the past. He says that he did the role because that attracted him and he thinks, an actor should not be stick to a certain kinds of roles in the name of creating image. Rather, Kay Kay, who has a MBA degree in his academic career, feels that an actor will get recognition only if he possesses talent. Kay Kay has been in Bollywood arena since 1996 when he was launched by Saeed Mirza's movie Naseem. However, the versatile actor rose to stardom nine years after his arrival in the industry through the Sudhir Mishra directed 2005 movie Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. Since then, there is no looking back for the actor and his career wheel is rolling on. Now, let us see if Bollywood moviegoers accept Kay Kay Menon in his new avatar in the movie Drona.

Priyanka Chopra’s Phobia About Horse in the Movie ‘Drona’

Priyanka Chopra has done a lot of dangerous stunts in the past. Specialy, in Shah Rukh Khan starrer Don, she had to do a number of action stunts. In the upcoming film, Abhishek Bachchan starrer, Drona will also feature Priyanka Chopra in a number of action stunts. Priyanka will portrays the role, Sonia, the bodyguard of central character Aditya/Drona (played by Abhishek Bachchan), in the movie. She was reportedly comfortable while doing the stunts and she was well-prepared for that. However, it was not until when director Goldie Behl approaced Priyanka to do a stunt in which she required to ride horse.

It was found out that the Bollywood beauty has a phobia about riding horse. In the end, she could do the stunt and director Goldie Behl was very happy with the performance of Priyanka Chopra. Goldie Behl said that no one could realize she was sacred of the horse sequence once the camera roll on.

Director Goldie Behl explained to IANS, “Since the day we started shooting the film, Priyanka was very confident about all her action scenes. She was very confident until we started shooting for a scene where she was supposed to ride a horse. She suddenly got very edgy with the idea.”

Behl added, “The horse sequence was very prominent for the scene. After a creative discussion, she actually shot for the entire sequence. Once the camera rolled no one could make out that she was scared and she shot like a pro.”

The movie Drona will hit the cinemas on 2 October 2008 during Eid festival. Starring Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Kay Kay Menon and Jaya Bachchan, Drona is expected to be a bit hit of this year.

Record 400 ‘Drona’ Prints to be Released in Overseas Market

Upcoming Eid flick, Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra starrer, Drona is expected to be a big hit of the year. Goldie Behl directed Drona will hit the big screen on 2^nd October 2008 worldwide. Now, reports have it in the media that Drona is going to make a new record as Eros International is planning to release 400 prints of the movie in overseas market. Currently, Shah Rukh Khan starrer Om Shanti Om holds the record of selling highest number of prints in overseas market. During Diwali festival last year, Om Shanti Om was a big hit both in India and the movie worked very well in overseas market too. This year, Akshay Kumar’s Singh Is Kinng also did very well in abroad.

If the reports out in the media are to be believed, then Abhishek Bachchan’s Drona will rewrite the record within very short time. After Guru last year, Drona is expected to be Abhishek Bachchan’s next solo hit. Abhishek Bachchan plays a super-hero character in the movie. Well, the Turkish club has a fearsome home record in Champions league. In their way to quarter final in Champions league last season, Fenerbahce won every match they played at home. At the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium, they are currently on 14-match unbeaten streak since November 2004. So, Dynamo Kiev can not fancy at Fenerbahce’s poor league form. However, the head to head record favors Dynamoo Kiev. Juventus player David Trezeguet will miss today’s affair against BATE Boriso as the French international has been out of action until next year with knee injury. ‘Drona’ Comic Books to be Available in the Market within 30 September

Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Drona will get released on next Thursday on 2^rd October 2008 globally. The big budget movie is expected to be a big hit during Eid festival. Meanwhile, reports out in the media suggest that a comic book series based on the movie Drona will be released in the country. Titled “The Adventures of Drona”, the comic series will include a number of books that will be available in the market subsequently.

The first book titled ‘The Crowning’ will be available in different departmental and book stores across the county by 30 September before the movie hits the screens. The book will serve as a prologue to the movie. The Crowning will establish the title character of the movie, Drona. The later books of the comic series will focus on other major characters of the movie- Sonia and Riz Raizada.

"We realized the potential of making Drona comic books while working on the merchandise with Turner. Some parts of this comic book will be seen in the movie also. We plan to publish a series of books after this one," said producer Shrishti Arya.

The movie will be distributed by Euro Kids and will hit the market with the price tag of Rs. 50. Initially, 20,000 printed copies will be available across Shoppers Stop, Future Group and other book stores. Besides the comic book, some other merchandise products including clothes, swords, mugs, books, tiffin boxes, e-cards etc. will be available in various stores.

I think, it was a very good decision taken by Drona producers to publish a comic book based on the theme of the movie Drona. It will definitely work well as a promotion tools for the movie and will help the movie to get more exposure in the box office.

The upcoming Bollywood film Drona is the debut film for music director Dhruv Ghanekar who recently talked about the songs of the movie. Ghanekar feels all the songs of Drona music album are very much related with the story and different from one another. There are five songs with two remixes in the film. Dhruv Ghanekar termed director Goldie Behl as a creative person. He also added that Goldie Behl insisted him to sing the title score of the movie.

"There are five songs and two remixes in the album. The background score is also equally important," Dhruv said. Dhruv is the co-founder of 'Smoke Music Productions' along with Ashutosh Phatak, a music production house working in the field of advertising, television and feature films.

"Goldie liked my voice and insisted that I sing it. I had given singing a backseat and concentrated on music composition over the years. When I was younger, I had sung jingles for Louis Banks and Vanraj Bhatia. Being a music director would always be my priority," he added.

Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Cuopra starrer Drona would hit the big screen next Thursday during the Eid festival. This would be Dhruv Ghanekar’s first movie as a music director. Director Goldie Behl Talks about the Movie ‘Drona’

Abhishek Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra starrer Drona will hit the screen next Thursday (2 October 2008). Bollywood moviegoers are eagerly waiting for the release of this big-budget Eid flick. Recently, director Goldie Behl said that Drona falls into the Harry Potter/Indiana Jones category. The director also compared Drona with Spiderman and Superman, claiming that the film features a hyper-real world. In fact, he talks about different issues about the movie Drona in an interview recently. Here, I am quoting few lines from the interview:

You have said Drona belongs to the Harry Potter/Indiana Jones category. What is it about those films that you find in yours?
The hyper-real environment in these films is what you would find similar in my film. The locations in my film are real, though the events are fictional. Compared to superhero films like Spiderman and Superman, Drona is much more intense and serious. I guess it’s like drama versus candyfloss. There is a strong sense of family legacy and bloodlines, which Indians take very seriously.

You have shot down comparisons with Krrish and Love Story 2050. What is “different” about Drona?
My film is not set in the past or future, so in that sense it is different. Drona is completely rooted in Indian myths and legends. It’s a fictional take on it. It’s in a hyper-real world. So it’s exciting, kind of like a graphic novel.

Goldie Behl said that he would be more prepared before getting into the sequel of Drona. Being asked if there is anything about Drona that he had not revealed yet, he said that the movie is highly emotional with innocence and a soul.

Manchester United escaped with three points against Bolton Wanderers thanks to a controversial penalty awarded to United. Arsenal suffered a crashing 2-1 home defeat to newly promoted Hull City today as they Gunners are left in the fourth place in the league table with 12 points. The much hyped T-Mobile G1, the first phone using Google’s Linux based Android operating system, produced by Hight Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) (TPE: 2498) and jointly launched by Google and T-Mobile, faced some problems regarding its unlimited data plan. When the phone was launched on September 23, 2008, it was said that for $35 per month users will enjoy unlimited data plan. However, in the official website of the T-Mobile G1, it was said that users would actually be able to use data worth 1GB per month. Users who cross this limit will be slowed to down to 50 Kbps. PC World reports:

The operator quickly came under fire for the limit, which is relatively low for people who hope to use the phone regularly to view maps, check e-mail, watch YouTube videos and browse the Internet.

On Thursday, T-Mobile said it removed the 1G-byte limit from its policy statement. But it didn't say that users would have true unlimited download capability. "The specific terms for our new data plans are still being reviewed and once they are final we will be certain to share this broadly with all customers," the company said in a statement.

After this problem, the website posted a generic statement which says that the operator would temporarily reduce “data throughput” for heavy users so that all the users can enjoy better service.

Riz can recognize Aditya as Drona when the two come face to face. However, till then Aditya was not aware of his own identity. Later on Sonia reveals Aditya about his own identity. Stumbled Aditya and Sonia decide to go back to his birth place kingdom of Pratapgarh where his mother Queen Jayati Devi could answer of all of his questions, but before reaching there, Aditya and Sonia face Riz and his evil powers.

Drona now needs to be the greatest warrior knowing that only he can save the future of mankind from Riz and his evils powers. He was born as Drona in the dynasty. So, it has become his duty to save the human lives by protecting the precious secret.

ICL Forms Cheerleading Squad 'ICL Zeebras' Led by Rakhi Sawant from Bollywood

Usually known for her item numbers, Rakhi Sawant will now be known for her cheerleading skill with 'ICL Zeebras', the new squad formed by Indian Cricket League (ICL) authorities recently. ICL recently launched India’s first indigenous cheerleading squad led by Bollywood sensation Rakhi Sawant. All the eight beautiful girls were picked up by Rakhi Sawant following the audition.

With ICL’s second season going underway from October 10, Indian Cricket League organizers are now busy with their last minute preparation. 'ICL Zeebras' will perform during ICL matches across its four venues- Gurgaon, Panchkula, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad. 'ICL Zeebras' will be seen performing for the first time at the opening ceremony at Hyderabad on 10 October.

Sony Ericsson introduces new PlayNow plus

In order to compete with Nokia’s “Comes With Music” music service, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB has declared to start its own song download service. The music service named “PlayNow plus,” will be launched in Sweden on the networks of Swedish mobile phone operator, Telenor ASA (OSL:TEL), in 2008. Next year, the service will be launched around the world. The “PlayNow plus” service will be available with the special edition of its new W902 Walkman phone. Nokia is going to launch its “Comes With Music” on October 2, 2008 in the U.K. Information Week reports:

The service, PlayNow Pus, will be powered by Omnifone and will offer all-you-can-eat music from the four largest recording labels and independent labels for a monthly fee. The music will come with digital rights management, but executives said users will be able to keep 100 DRM-free songs for each six months of their contract.

For allowing the music service to operate on the network, the operator will get a share of the monthly revenue. This puts Sony Ericsson’s music service in a serious competition with that of Nokia because Nokia offers music phones through subscription. It does not sell tracks and albums. Under “PlayNowplus” system, mobile phone users will not have to worry about paying high data charges for downloading music.

“PlayNow plus” will offer customers to choose from a collection of five million DRM music tracks from four major international music companies: EMI, Sony BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music. In addition, there will be thousands of independent local music labels.

Bollywood Seeking New Market in Czech Republic

As part of Bollywood’s expansion policy in the unearthed markets, a ‘Festival of Bollywood Film’ will take place at Prague, the capital of Czech Republic. With the theme of ‘India Reality…?’, film festival is set to showcase the life in real India. Some of the super hit Bollywood movies of recent time including Shah Rukh Khan starrer, last year’s flick OM Shanti Om, Aamir Khan’s Rang de Basanti will be shown in the festival.

There will be other events on the occasion of the Bollywood film festival in Czech Republic. Actor Kabir Bedi, who is a popular face in Czech Republic thanks to his Italian television series Sandokan, will be chief guest in the festival. There will be Indian food, Bollywood music and many other things to give the Czechs an overall idea about Bollywood and its culture. The film festival will kick off on October 6 and will continue till October 12. Now, let us see if Bollywood organizers can successfully explore the Czech Republic market for Bollywood.

Nissan, Sharp and NTTDoCoMo develops new mobile phone with car keys

How many times it happened that you left your car key on the office desk and you have go up all the way to your office to get them. Carrying a car key is quite a problem. Well, now you will not forget your car keys. Japan’s Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO: 7201), Sharp Corporation (TYO: 6753) and NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (TYO: 9437) have developed a mobile phone that will automatically open up car doors. The system will even allow the users to start their car engines without inserting the key.

Japan’s Sharp Corporation built this phone which uses the technology previously developed by Nissan Motor. Referred as “Intelligent Key” it allows the drivers to open the door and start the car without removing keys from their pockets. Cars equipped with the system automatically sense the presence of the key once it is brought inside the car. Since 2002, Nissan has produced around one million car supporting this new technology. The new mobile phone supporting this system will work on the mobile network of NTTDoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile phone operating company.

In a press release published on September 24, 2008, the three companies announced to display the technology in the upcoming CEATEC technology conference in Tokyo. The companies will launch the mobile phone in the market in March 2009.

T-Mobile G1 aka 'Dream' the first Android-powered mobile phone

Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) and T-Mobile USA, Inc. jointly launched the

T-Mobile G1. Google founders- Larry Page, and Sergey Brin, appeared on rollerblades on the stage and unveiled the T-Mobile G1 at a press conference jointly organized by Google and T-Mobile in New York on September 23, 2008.

The T-Mobile G1, also known as ‘Dream’ by HTC, is the first phone to use Google’s Android operating system. Through this mobile phone, Google starts its foray into “PC-based Internet mobile phones.” Produced by Taiwanese company, Hight Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) (TPE: 2498), the T-Mobile G1 is not a ‘trend-setter’ but a ‘catalyst’ in the growing trend of using Internet while traveling.

The T-Mobile G1 will compete with high-end smart phones like the Apple iPhone, RIM’s Blackberry. Google has a different plan with T-Mobile G1. Since Google Android is free, the company is expecting that many mobile users and mobile phone makers are going to use it making it possible to access Google’s services. In the process, the company will earn money from advertising. New York Times reports:

“For Google, Android is a cash drain,” said James Faucette, an analyst with Pacific Crest Securities. “They are going to lose money on Android as an operating system. They hope to make it up from the services that they are delivering through their infrastructure and servers.”

On the other hand, T-Mobile is looking forward to increase the sales of its data plans though the T-Mobile G1. The company believes that the mobile phone will attract business people and consumers.

Google executives predict the company will eventually make more money on the mobile Web than on the traditional Web. Investment bank Collins Stewart says it expects the search giant to add $5 billion in revenue from cellphone ads by 2011.

The G1 connects to Wi-Fi hot spots, features a keyboard and trackball and even has a compass, so when a user looking at Google Maps turns, the image does too.

• The T-Mobile G1 comes with pre-installed applications including: Google search, YouTube, Gmail, GoogleMaps. Washington Post says:

With its move into the smartphone market, Google is taking a slightly different approach from Apple. But here’s the thing: Android, and the G1, are open. Open, open, open, in ways that would make Steve Jobs cringe. You can unlock this phone after 90 days—that is, use any SIM card from any carrier in it. The operating system is free and open-source, meaning that any company can make changes without consulting or paying Google. The App store is completely open, too; T-Mobile and Google say they won’t censor programs that they don’t approve of, as Apple does with the iPhone store. Yes, even if someone writes a Skype-like program that lets people avoid using up T-Mobile cellular voice minutes.

• The T-Mobile G1 is currently available in English but it will be available in other languages.

Price:

The T-Mobile G1 will be available in USA from October 22, 2008. It will cost $179 ($20 less than iPhone). The phone comes with a two-year contract. Users will be able to subscribe to a limited data plan for $25 per month. For unlimited data access they would have to pay $35 per month. The mobile will be launched in the U.K in early November. In the first quarter of 2009, the phone will be launched in other European markets. Analysts are expecting that the sales of the T-Mobile G1 will range from 200,000 units to 400,000 units in 2008. Business Week says:

Still, the original iPhone sold 1 million units in its first 1½ months on the market—and that was during what is usually a slow sales season, compared with end-of-year holidays. Apple expects to sell 10 million units of the next-generation device, the iPhone 3G, this year.

Sales expectations are lower for Android partly because G1 will be carried by T-Mobile USA, which has 30 million subscribers, compared with Apple's iPhone partner, AT&T (T), which has more than 70 million.

Vidya Balan Learning UP Dialect for her Next Film “Ishkiyaan”

For the forthcoming film Ishkiyaan, Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is now learning a UP dialect. Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the Vishal Bharadwaj production features Naseeruddin Shah alongside Arshad Warsi and Vidya Balan. Being a South Indian, she was not very comfortable with the rural dialect. Though Vidya is fluent in Hindi, she insisted on learning the language before taking on the role."

It seems pretty good that Vidya is taking professional training before turning to camera. With her fluency in Hindi, the actress could have gone to deliver the dialogues without taking any lesion on the dialect. However, known as a perfectionist, Vidya Balan, went through the classes on that dialect to deliver the perfect diction in the movie.

The actress said that Ishkiyaan emerges with an unusual concept and she is happy to share screen space with Naseeruddin Shah in the movie. She portrays the character that fools her uncle and her nephew, portrayed by Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi respectively.

Honda Motor announced to develop Multi-View Camera System

On September 18, 2008, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO: 7267), the second largest Japanese auto-maker, announced to develop a multi-view camera system that enables the driver to view from multiple-wide-angle CCD cameras. This will help to reduce blind spots, enable smooth parallel or garage parking and enhance safe driving in intersections with limited visibility. The new multi-view camera system will be applied to Honda Odyssey which will be launched in October in Japan. JCN Network reports:

The multi-view camera system includes four wide-angle CCD cameras located in the front and rear of the vehicle and on the right and left door mirrors. The new system synthesizes images from these cameras and displays the synthesized image on the navigation screen with additional information including a projection line, which shows the vehicle's projected trajectory calculated based on steering angle information, and a reference line, which provides a reference for the distance between the vehicle and approaching obstacles. This provides support to the driver in parking, enhancing visibility, and avoiding contact in narrow driving conditions.

In order to enhance vehicle safety, in 2001, Honda first introduced a rear view camera system in its vehicles which enables rear visibility while backing up. This was followed by the development of Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFS) to improve nighttime visibility during turning in 2003. In 2004, Honda developed Intelligent Night Vision System which would detect pedestrians and provide warnings to the driver.

High Court Rejected “Hari Puttar” Case Filed by Warner Bros

Hollywood production house Warner Bros lost the case they filed against a Bollywood movie titled “Hari Puttar”, claiming that the title of the movie is very much similar to the title of their Bollywood film “Harry Potter.” However, the Delhi High Court rejected the plea of Warner Bros on this matter, stating that Warner Bros should have filed the case three years ago as the title of the movie was announced in 2005. Moreover, the court also said that the readers would easily make a distinction between Hari Puttar and Harry Potter.

The court said Warner Bros could have brought the case three years ago and said readers could easily distinguish Hari Puttar from Harry Potter.

"The case has been dismissed. The court said that Warner Bros had known the title of the film since 2005 and had delayed bringing the case to court until the last moment," lawyer Pratibha Singh was quoted by news agency AFP as saying.

The stories of the two movies are also very different. Hari Puttar tells the story of a 10-year-old boy who goes to England and gets involved in a mission to save the world. The pre-scheduled release date of the movie, 12 September, was delayed by the court case and now the movie will hit the big screens on 26 September. The movie is made by Mirchi Movies.
