Real Madrid Defeated Zenit St. Petersburg 2-1 in Champions League 2008-2009

Real Madrid ended a seven-match win-draught on the road in Champions league after pulled off an impressive 2-1 away victory over UEFA Cup Champion Zenit St. Petersburg last night. Real Madrid got the first goal thanks to an own goal and then their Dutch striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored the winner for the Spanish champions. With this victory, Real Madrid has six points from two matches and thus leading the Group H point table.


Real Madrid manager Bernd Schuster is very much happy with the performance of his boys in Russia. The managers said that Real Madrid earned a very important victory over Zenit St. Petersburg. The coach also thinks that pressure was mounting on Real Madrid, specially in the second half of the match. However, he is now delighted with the points Real Madrid pick up last night because he thinks these points are crucial for Real Madrid’s next two match as he sees Real’s two victories as morale-booster for the visit to Turin to face Juventus.
